Can ‘E’ ride Tandem?

Can ‘E’ ride Tandem?

This was a piece to try my patience and my skill. I started this nearly 2 years ago when I was drying out some Sycamore, Cherry and Lime. I was due to carve a peice for two friends who were getting married. They both love cycling and had started riding a tandem together. It was suggested by others that I carve this for them.

The first piece of wood was that was ready was the Cherry. After about two weeks the figures were roughed out and recognisable, and I started clearing my way to the bike frame but there was a shake in the wood and the frame fell apart. Ok one down.

The next piece of wood that was dry enough was the Lime and all was going well. I had all of the figures and the bike carved out and I was starting to smooth the piece off for finishing. I had 4 weeks till there first anniversary. I was pleased with my progress and I was on my way to the Carving Club when I had the piece in my hand. The door hook gave way as I went through the swing doors in my workshop and smashed into the carving separating the lady cleanly from the bike and the back wheel. I was gutted.

I now had 3 weeks to get this piece carved and it was a busy time with other events planned. I ended up with the Sycamore which was carving best of all and worked a number of very late shifts till 3am on some nights. I was still working the night and morning before we went out for a meal with other friends to see the couple. I was knackered.

I added a little fun with my take on the rabbit and the hare fabled race by Aesop. I felt I was safe as it was pointed out his tales wouldn’t be covered by copyright infringement. Thanks Chris.🤭

The piece was handed over at the start of the the meal. I didn’t want to see it broken accidentally again in my possession. It was accepted with fun, joy and much appreciation.

Please if anyone asked again for a person riding a bike as a carving. I will not be responsible for my actions.🤭 but the answer is NO!
